Solidarity to strike at VW Portugal on 30th of August

75% votes by ballot of the employees against the planned introduction of regular work on Saturday at VW location in Palmela (Lissabon) express a determined „No“. Starting with first day of strike on 30th of August, they want to stress their demands. Further days of strike are intended in September, if VW does not cancel the planned tightening of exploitation. Considering the result of voting the Workers Commission resigned. They had given in majority their consent to the agreement, which was dictated by VW in guide of blackmailing.

VW wants to double production in Portugal with shortly before presented „T-Roc“, the new SUV of VW, and 1500 new jobs are promised. But the employees reject very determined to work on three shifts on Saturday.

At VW in Portugal since long time practiced co-management was working quite good. Since foundation in 1991 till now, this would be the first strike. During the strike movements in the last years ,there was no participation of VW-employees, because of comparatively higher wages and benefits. They are less experienced in struggles. But obviously this will be changing.

Coordinating Group of International Automotive Workers Coordination has already sent a motion of solidarity to the employees of VW Portugal. On 14th of August they wrote: „Determined we support your decision to go on strike on 30th of August and to hind that management is extending working time. We from International Automotive Workers Conference reject all steps of this multinational corporation, which intends to extend exploitation of all employees in all locations on the base of serving as a pretext the costs, which were affect of their insolent fraud of exhaust emissions.“ Complete text of solidarity message you can find on website in german and spanish version www.iaar.de

This declaration is on the right track expressing: „Only unity and international solidarity will be successfull to reject the attacks and to step forward improving working conditions of those, who create the richness, but which less distribute under each other.“
